@Leslie - Smoke is EVERYWHERE, it WILL get to you ANYWHERE OUTDOORS and many places indoors. There is sooo much smoke in this city, it bands together and seeps in through cracks in your windows and doors, even in a non-smoking hotel for instance. I would not come; you are not missing out on much anyway. Most Parisians are pigs and their are plenty of other filthy old cities with European charm on this planet. (Yes I have seen almost all of them, in addition to 30+ other countries worldwide) My lungs and nasal passages are burning as we speak.
I can't get a meal from ANY restaurant here (imagine the sun shining, outdoor chairs on the streets) as I WILL be forced to eat smoke with my food.
Anywhere else is France is nicer to visit (better people - less smoke. But not by much)
To the Rest of the Readers:
Second time in Paris. When I was younger and liked to party (i.e. couple of drinks/girls) the smoking did not bother me AS much. Yes, I smoked for years as a teenager/early twenties, but like most, I was young, and ever-so DUMB. Even back then I would never smoke around another non-smoker. Period.
Now, as a "mature" human being, my most hated of negative character traits is INCONSIDERATION.
***Smokers are the epitome of inconsiderate; Those who shorten the life of others, as they prefer to shorten their own, literally stealing the air out of my lungs.***
Think I will start spraying spider/fly spray in the face of every person who blows smoke my way. I will just say: "Sorry, it is my thing. I like to do it. I enjoy it. Can't stop now.. What? You don't like poison in your face?"
Culture my ass. For example, Japan has culture. Paris is a joke.
Make no mistake, I AM a happy, spiritual person. But this needs to be said:
However the anger of living 2012 (!!!) and we still manufacture, sell, and consume what is clearly nothing more than poison AND then poison everyone around us, is becoming too much to handle. Especially here is Paris. Smoking has RUINED it for me here:
Step outside - first breath is smoke.
Open your window? Smoke.
Walk ANY street? Smoke in your face.
Off the train - Smoke if your face.
Get into an elevator, taxi or toilet - the carcinogenic stench of a recent smoke.
YOU SMOKER PIGS - with your young children, your elderly parents and your incessant poisoning of all others; you are deplorable.
